2026 Summer Workshops

NYSED OBEWL is sponsoring a two-day, in-person workshop in each of nine regions in New York State to support NYS world language educators to understand how to enact the NYS Culture Standards. All workshops will run from 9:00-2:00 PM with a one-hour lunch on your own. The workshop description for each day, as well as the locations and dates are listed below. Participants must commit to attending both days in full. 8 hours of CTLE credit are offered.

Supporting Immigrant Students and Families: A Guide for New York State Secondary School Counselors

The guide was developed by CUNY-IIE in partnership with 11 practicing school counselors across New York State. It provides counselors with grounded practices for creating welcoming school environments, navigating legal and policy considerations, supporting students through the college access process, and building meaningful partnerships with families and community organizations.

Immigration and Education in Turbulent Times (Virtual)

This virtual module will provide hands-on opportunities for educators to learn about historical and current immigration events and policies while examining their impact on their school community.

Join CUNY-IIE for the virtual launch of their new counselor guide, Supporting Immigrant Students and Families: A Guide for New York State Secondary School Counselors.

During this session, panelists will explore key strategies for middle and high school counselors to support immigrant-origin students and families. This webinar will highlight practical approaches for welcoming students, working with teachers, families, and other school staff to address student needs, and building community partnerships that strengthen support systems for immigrant students.

In this webinar, you will learn about key resources and promising strategies used to intentionally support immigrant-origin students and their families. You will also hear directly from counselors about their experiences and the impact they’ve had on their diverse school communities.
