Summer 2023 Unit Design Workshops

The Summer 2023 Unit Design Workshops are available in nine regions of NY (Capital, Hudson Valley, Long Island, Mid-State, Mid-West, New York City, Northern NY, Southern Tier, and Western regions). Although the examples given will be for Checkpoint B, these workshops are open to teachers of any level (Checkpoints A through C). These in-person events will run from 9:00-2:00 PM (with a one-hour lunch on your own) on two consecutive days. (Please note: the second day of the NYC workshop - July 21st - will run from 10:00-3:00 PM.) Participants must commit to attending both days. Participants who satisfy the attendance requirements of this workshop will receive a total of eight (8) hours of CTLE credit. To participate, educators must register in advance using the following online form. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the venue capacity has been reached. These sessions are offered free of charge, are in-person only, and will not be recorded for future viewing.

Manhattan College

Camino Program

The Camino Program at Manhattan College is a two-year associate degree program in general studies designed to provide academic support and resources to native Spanish-speaking students. Students in this program reinforce their English skills while acquiring a degree. Students benefit from tutoring, study groups, and academic counseling to help them succeed at Manhattan College.

Upon successfully graduating with an associate degree, students have the opportunity to apply to a bachelor's degree program at Manhattan College. For more information, visit their website.

2022-2023 Comprehensive ELL Education Plan: Due January 31, 2023

  • The 2022-2023 Comprehensive ELL Education Plan (CEEP) form was posted in the SED Business Portal on November 21 and is now available for completion by school districts.

  • This year’s CEEP is to be completed electronically through the SED Business Portal. The CEEP is due by January 31, 2023.

  • Questions can be directed to the Office of Bilingual Education and World Languages at OBEWL@NYSED.GOV.

Requesting New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) Materials for Spring 2023

All NYSESLAT test materials for Spring 2023 will be requested through NYSED’s new contractor for the NYSESLAT, Pearson. 

Information about ordering test materials from Pearson will be distributed later this month.

The ordering system is expected to open in mid-January for schools to submit their requests.
