HV RBERN Update

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

In order to continue to be responsive, the Hudson Valley Regional Bilingual Education Resource Network (HV RBERN) is gathering information about how schools are planning for the future. We are requesting your feedback; please complete this survey to inform our work. Our intent is to gauge how the HV RBERN can better support you in your work with ELLs. We also encourage you to forward this survey to other educators in your district.

We are pleased to announce that Elementary and Secondary ELL Connection Fridays will continue until the end of the school year. Please register using the links below in order to receive the connection information.

Mercy College Clinically-Rich Intensive Teacher Institute for ESOL
Significantly Reduced Tuition for NYC DOE Teachers

Certified NYCDOE teachers can earn an additional NYS certificate in ESOL PreK-12 within one year and at a substantially reduced tuition rate. This clinically-rich program offers teachers a pathway to ESOL certification, with the goal of addressing the shortage of NYC teachers in English as a Second Language/English as a New Language. View program flyer here.

To apply for this program, you’ll need to submit an online graduate application, in addition to the specific grant application form. The online application can be found using this link: https://apply.mercy.edu/apply/.

Professional Learning and Resources

SUNY New Paltz's TESOL program still has a few spots available in the Clinically Rich Intensive Teacher Institute beginning in August 2020. This Certificate of Advanced Study is designed for professionally certified teachers who are working full time in public schools in New York. The coursework consists of a sequence of 5 hybrid courses with online and some in-person (or Zoom) Saturday meetings and leads to New York teaching certification in ESOL. Because of grant support from NYSED, if the program is completed in its entirety, the full cost for teachers after reimbursement for the 15 graduate credits and certification recommendation to the state is $1,750. For more information, check out their website at: https://www.newpaltz.edu/iti/ or write an email to intensiveteacher@newpaltz.edu expressing your interest. Because of COVID-19, the deadline has been extended until June 30th. New information and/or orientation sessions will be held later this spring/summer. Dates are TBA.

New York State Community Schools Technical Assistance Centers (NYS CS TAC) are requesting feedback on how they can best serve their districts. Please complete their survey here. For more information about NYS CS TAC, contact: cstac@rockland21c.org.

NYSTESOL has had the Google Classroom Student Tutorial translated into 9 languages: Portuguese, Bengali, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Haitian, French, Korean, and Arabic. For more information contact: NYSTESOL.
