ELL Connection Fridays

We hope that you and your loved ones are doing well.

ELL Connection Friday, March 27, 2020, 1:00 – 2:30 PM
We want to connect with you to learn about what you are doing to support your ELLs while they are learning from home and to share these practices with other educators of ELLs.

This Friday, March 27th, from 1:00 – 2:30 PM, we are hosting an ELL Connection Friday Zoom conference call during which participants can connect and share something that is working well in support of ELLs, while they are learning at home.

If you are interested in sharing a best practice during this call on Friday at 1:00 PM, please complete this form. We will send participants the Zoom information prior to the ELL Connection Friday conference call.

The number of participants for this conference call will be limited, but we plan on recording it so that others can watch it at their leisure. We plan on scheduling future conference calls; information will be shared in future newsletter blasts.

Information and Resources

OBEWL and NYSED are committed to providing reasonable options to assure the continuity of instruction and programs. To that end, you will find general guidance in the form of an FAQ on implementing the Seal of Biliteracy this spring.

NYSED released a memo regarding the suspension of the New York State Elementary- and Intermediate-Level State Assessments, including the NYSESLAT, for the remainder of the school year in response to the statewide closures of schools and districts, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

HV RBERN Update

We hope this finds you safe and well. We know it has been a difficult time for everyone, and we wanted to reach out to let you know that the Hudson Valley RBERN team is here for ELL education support and guidance.

As a reminder, we'd like to include our region in the conversation taking place with regard to making the Hudson Valley RBERN a virtual CTLE provider. We ask that you please complete and share the following Google Form requesting your feedback.

Tools For Supporting ELLs Through Virtual Learning

To better serve our region, we are switching mailing list providers on July 1, 2020. Even if you are already signed up for our current list, we ask that you please visit our website at www.hudsonvalleyrbern.org and fill out the new form on the home page or in the popup.

Signing up for our new mailing list will ensure that you continue to receive HV RBERN updates and news after July 1.

We sincerely hope you are staying safe and healthy during these ever-changing times.

With many districts quickly transitioning to distance and virtual learning models, we at the Hudson Valley RBERN want you to know that we are dedicated to continuing to offer support for ELLs across our region. In the coming weeks, please be aware that the RBERN will be offering an increased number of virtual courses to our region.

The RBERN staff, in collaboration with various district staff, compiled a spreadsheet of helpful educational tools (many for no cost at all) that may provide assistance to teachers of ELLs in the virtual environment. As always, be sure to check with your district Technology Director to guarantee these technologies are allowed in your district under Ed Law 2D. Please note that there are multiple sheets you can access by clicking on the tabs at the bottom of the spreadsheet. We will continue to add to and update this spreadsheet over time.

Click here to access the resource spreadsheet.

In addition to the above spreadsheet, we'd like to include our region in the conversation taking place with regard to making the HV RBERN a virtual CTLE provider. With that said, we ask that you please complete and share the following Google Form requesting your feedback.

Please stay tuned for additional HV RBERN updates as the situation evolves.
