Pursue Your TESOL Certification

The College of New Rochelle will be sponsoring a NYS-subsidized Tuition Grant Program: Clinically Rich-Intensive Teacher Institute (CR-ITI), with classes starting mid-winter at Dutchess BOCES. This is a program that is mostly-funded by NYSED and allows teachers to become certified to teach English Language Learners within the public school classroom. Through an interactive presentation approach, video demonstrations and hands-on activities, participants will gain a practical understanding of the 6 co-teaching models, using Marilyn Friend's and Honigsfeld & Dove's frameworks for collaborative instruction.

A Teacher’s Guide to Migrant Students, Trauma & Social Emotional Learning
4/4/19, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Orange-Ulster BOCES

This workshop will build participants’ awareness of the various traumas and stresses that can affect many of our students, specifically undocumented migrant students.

Teaching Reading to English Language Learners: What's Different?
2/11/19, 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, Southern Westchester BOCES
3/12/19, 9:00 - 3:00 pm, Rockland BOCES
Participants will explore what is different about teaching the key components of reading (phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension) to English language learners, how to create opportunities to develop oral language, and strategies for before, during and after reading supports.

LIU Hudson announces a fully online course for the Spring Semester, 2019:TED 650-001: Second Language Acquisition, 3 graduate credits. This course would be an excellent choice for classroom teachers who have multilingual learners and would fulfill the CTLE Language Acquisition hours. Offered for reduced tuition.
