Training for Administration of Updated NYSITELL
Rockland BOCES, Tuesday, January 30th, 2018, 12:30-3:30 PM
Ulster BOCES, Wednesday, February 7th, 2018, 9-12:00 PM  

As a result of this ½ day training session, participants will learn about the changes to the NYSITELL, focusing on the changes in the test processing. This session is recommended for ENL teachers and coordinators, classroom teachers, and building and test administrators who want to learn more about the NYSITELL test processing and review administration practices. Those who will be administering the NYSITELL or who will have a role in any part of the test processing should attend a training session.

Using Culturally Responsive Scaffolds for English Language Learners

This hands-on, participatory workshop for Teachers' Assistants will model how to implement instructional scaffolds for ELLs that are culturally responsive. 

Building Academic Vocabulary: Strategies for Teaching English Language Learners

Participants will examine research based strategies for both incidental and explicit instruction of vocabulary and be able to work collaboratively with fellow educators to design/discuss ways of implementing these instructional strategies in the classroom.

Tech Toolkit for Supporting English Language Learners

This interactive and hands-on workshop introduces all educators to technology tools that can help enhance their ENL teaching practice. As with previous workshops, the day will be divided into two parts: an AM “Learn” session and a PM “Apply” session. Please note you must attend the AM “Learn” to be able to participate in the PM “Apply.”

SIFE Workshop Series Part 3: Engaging SIFE in All Classrooms

Greetings! The HV RBE-RN would like to remind you about the upcoming workshop with Dr. Kate Kinsella  and the Hudson Valley Writing Project Saturday Seminar, as well as let you know that we are scheduling informational sessions about the 2018 edition of the NYSITELL.

  • Our upcoming workshop with Dr. Kate Kinsella: Tools for Launching a School-Wide Academic Vocabulary Campaign on Thursday, December 14th, 2017, at the Edith Macy Conference Center in Briarcliff Manor, NY is quickly approaching. Dr. Kinsella is a teacher educator at San Francisco State University and a highly-sought after speaker and consultant to school districts and state departments throughout the US regarding development of academic language and literacy across K–12 subject areas. This workshop is designed for administrators, educators, and practitioners of students in grades 3–12. You can view the workshop flyer with more information here. There are only a few seats left so please register now! The HV RBE-RN is sponsoring this workshop; it is free for participants and includes breakfast and lunch. 
  • This Saturday is the Hudson Valley Writing Project's Saturday Seminar, with a focus in ELLs. For more information, view the flyer.   
  • The HV RBE-RN will be holding several 1/2 day sessions to help districts prepare for the 2018 Edition of the NYSITELL, which will be implemented beginning in February 2018.
