Welcome back to the new school year! The Hudson Valley RBE-RN is pleased to announce that our team has grown, increasing our capacity to serve the school districts in our region! We welcome Resource Specialists, Alison Provencher and Rachael Wasilewski, and look forward to your meeting them in our work together.

Hudson Valley RBE-RN Update

The HV RBE-RN would like to share the following important announcements:

SUNY New Paltz - Intensive Teacher Institute Information Session tomorrow, 8/24, at SUNY New Paltz, in Old Main, B 125 at 5 PM with more information about the program.

  • For professionally certified teachers who are currently working in a school
  • Flexible, hybrid format with more online work than in-person meetings
  • Five courses which can be completed within a calendar year which leads to ENL Certification
  • Significantly reduced cost to the participants

    Spaces are limited, so it’s recommended to apply now! 

    From our colleagues at The College of New Rochelle:

    The College of New Rochelle was officially awarded a NYSED grant to cover 75% tuition costs for 10 candidates who will enroll in their Advanced Certificate in School Building Leadership program. Specifically, the only candidates who can be considered for this program are educators that are certified in TESOL or Bilingual Education, which is a priority requirement of the grant.

    They are currently accepting applications from qualified candidates for the 18-21 credit Advanced Certificate in School Building Leadership. Please view the program flyer with more details here.

    We previously announced the upcoming workshop Dr. Kate Kinsella: Tools for Launching a School-Wide Academic Vocabulary Campaign on December 14th (location TBD). You can view the workshop flyer with more information here. Location details will be released soon.

    HV RBE-RN August Update

    Greetings!

    News that you have been waiting for: the Spring 2017 NYSESLAT data should be available to district and building administrators by midweek! 

    The Hudson Valley RBE-RN would like to share with you a series of announcements about exciting professional development opportunities for the fall/winter.

    1. NYSITELL Training at Southern Westchester BOCES on 8/28/17 (½ Day, 9 AM - 12 PM). Participants will be trained to administer the current version of the New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners (NYSITELL). Link to register in MLP here. A new version of the NYSITELL will be released in February, 2018; training sessions for the new version will be held in the winter.  
    2. Once again, we’ll be offering Literacy Support for ELLs: Reading Strategies for K-12 at Southern Westchester BOCES on 9/25/17. Link to register in MLP here.
    3. SAVE THE DATE! The Hudson Valley RBE-RN is excited to host Dr. Kate Kinsella: Tools for Launching a School-Wide Academic Vocabulary Campaign on December 14th! (Location TBD). Dr. Kinsella is a teacher educator at San Francisco State University and a highly-sought after speaker and consultant to school districts and state departments throughout the US regarding development of academic language and literacy across K–12 subject areas. This workshop is designed for administrators, educators, and practitioners of students in grades 3–12. More details will be released soon!
