This workshop will examine what teachers must consider when teaching reading to English Language Learners. What are the components of effective reading instruction: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, through the lens of second language acquisition and cultural and linguistic diversity. We will also explore the role of oral language development for literacy and what the science of reading research says about multilingual learners.
Participants should bring a device to access workshop materials.
