In WIT 101 for Math, teachers learn to implement sentence-level writing strategies in support of their mathematical goals. WIT sentence strategies are high-leverage because they develop English language, content vocabulary, reading comprehension AND clear mathematical thinking and expression simultaneously. Our goal is not to turn Math teachers into writing teachers. Rather, we aim to develop teachers' capacity to draw upon WIT strategies to improve students' performance in Math.

OBJECTIVES
Participants will:

• Understand the WIT approach including where it comes from and how it leverages improvement for students generally and English Learners in particular;

• Be introduced to 7 WIT sentence strategies and their applicability in Math;

• Design at least 3 different sentence strategies tailored to their specific mathematics content that can be used immediately with students; and

• Understand how WIT develop students' mathematical language and expertise in alignment with the Next Generation Standards for Mathematical Practices.

This workshop will start promptly at 9am. Please arrive 15 minutes early.
