POSTPONED: The Language Proficiency Team: Overview plus Q&A Session - at Southern Westchester BOCES

  • Southern Westchester BOCES, 3rd Floor 450 Mamaroneck Avenue Harrison, NY, 10528 United States (map)

New York State has implemented a screening process for identifying a student with a disability, who may also be an English Language Learner/Multilingual Learner (ELL/MLL). Commissioner's Regulations Subpart 154-3 went into effect December 3, 2014 and established criteria for determining whether a student with a disability shall take the statewide English language proficiency identification assessment (the NYSITELL).

In this workshop, participants will examine the guidance document published by the NYSED on February 16, 2018 to identify the role of the Language Proficiency Team, to whom it applies, and its members' responsibilities. School or district-based teams can then develop a plan to identify a language acquisition need when a student has a disability. We will review the steps of ELL identification for a student with an IEP and key documents important to the process. A Q&A session will follow. Please bring a digital or paper copy of the guidance document found here: Guidance Determining English Language Learner/Multilingual Learner (ELL/MLL) Status of and Services for Students with Disabilities.

Registration/Sign-in: 12:30-1:00 PM

Cost: Free
